- Project: Heavy-duty tri-axle trailer dolly
- Sector: Australian road transport
- Scope: Engineering design, hand calculations, 3D modelling and production documentation
The brief
This project covered the engineering design and detailed modelling of a heavy-duty tri-axle trailer dolly for Australian road transport. A dolly connects trailers in a combination, so it carries significant vertical load while also transferring the pulling and braking forces between vehicles, every kilometre of its working life.
Our engineering approach
Extensive engineering calculations, including detailed hand calculations, were carried out to verify the structural integrity of the chassis and the critical load-bearing components. The design was checked against the relevant Australian Standards and the safety requirements that apply to heavy vehicle transport.
Alongside strength, we focused on how the dolly would be built and maintained. Particular attention was given to practical fabrication, manufacturability, serviceability and efficient assembly, with realistic structural details that reflect how the industry actually builds this kind of equipment.
Outcome
The client received a verified design with production-ready documentation, ready for the workshop. The project reflects our capability in heavy vehicle engineering, structural steel design and engineering calculations, delivering practical solutions for the Australian transport industry.
