- Project: Truck chassis for a heavy-duty tanker
- Sector: Heavy vehicle and road transport
- Scope: Chassis design, structural detailing and 3D modelling
The brief
The client needed a robust truck chassis to serve as the foundation for heavy-duty tanker transport. A tanker places very different demands on a chassis than a general-purpose body: the load is liquid, it moves, and the chassis has to carry and restrain it safely through braking, cornering and rough road conditions.
Our engineering approach
We designed the chassis around the way a tanker actually loads it. A cross member positioned on the top of the chassis provides additional support and stability for the tank and makes mounting it straightforward and secure. Every element, from the main rails to the joints, was sized and detailed to handle the dynamic shifts in weight that come with liquid cargo, and to distribute that weight evenly through the structure rather than concentrating it at a few points.
Because chassis rarely fail from a single overload, but from fatigue at welds, holes and sudden changes in section, the detailing was given as much attention as the member sizes. Load paths were kept direct, and connections were arranged so they could be fabricated consistently in the workshop.
Outcome
The result is a rugged, durable chassis designed specifically for tanker work: strong where the loads are highest, practical to fabricate, and built to perform reliably under challenging road conditions over a long service life.
